The Constitutional Court of South Africa

The Constitutional Court of South Africa is based in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, and
consists of eleven judges. A litigant who wishes to appeal against a judgment on a constitutional matter shall, within 15 days of the order against which the appeal is sought, lodge with the Registrar an application for leave to appeal.

The judge or judges concerned shall give directions in regard to the compiling of the record, the time within which the record is to be lodged with the Registrar and any other issues which may be relevant for the purpose of enabling the Court to deal with the appeal.

This record has to be prepared strictly in accordance with the directions issued and the rules of the Constitutional Court. After perusing the record, and considering the written and oral arguments presented, a written judgment is handed down.
